In recent years, I’ve worked increasingly as a consultant, editor and writer — advising clients on the media, providing content and ideas for TV programmes, and helping clients to write and prepare press releases, reports, popular lectures and even technical presentations.
Many scientists and technologists find writing and communicating difficult, and it is immensely satisfying to help them find the best way to convey their ideas, and bring focus, clarity and impact to their message.
This consultancy work draws on my decade of experience as an editor at Technology Ireland, and over 20 years as a journalist reading press releases and attending talks. I’ve also developed a number of very popular training workshops in media skills and communicating science — see here, for more about the workshops.
Recent reports that I was involved in writing or editing include:
Teagasc 2030 foresight report
A Picture of Health 2030, for Engineers Ireland
Ireland at Risk: Water, for the Irish Academy of Engineering
Clients over the years have included a wide range of State agencies, research institutions and professional organisations.
