Ingenious Dublin in Georgian times, the many inventions of the ingenious Irish, the life and legacy of Ireland’s greatest scientist, and the fascinating story of the priest, the turkey and the giant battery!
Just some of the illustrated talks that I’ve given around Ireland over the years, to audiences ranging from school groups and the general public, to visiting US students and professional audiences of scientists and even museum curators.
Since working on my guide to sustainable living, I’ve also given talks on sustainability and science.
Talks can be customised to the audience and the location, such as the scientific heritage of the south-west, or stories of use in the classroom, or women and science.
Contact me, using the comment for below, if you’d be interested in inviting me to give an illustrated talk to your group.
The image here, by the way, is the latch-hook needle invented in 1903 by Robert Flower, of Co Laois. It simplified the making of hand-tufted rugs and carpets, and is still used by craft workers the world over to knot yarn in hand-made carpets.
